Window air conditioner problem?

Question:
Window air conditioner problem?
I have an old Whirlpool air conditioner that is about 22 years old. The compressor comes on, but the coils are warm. Could it be low on freon? Since i bought this air conditioner at a rummage sale around 1998 for 25 dollars, i think i got the same life out of it as a brand new one.

Answer:
My experience tells me this: there are 2 very common problems in window A/C's of any age and they are
1. The coils are dirty - take it outside take the cover off and clean both coils very good.
2. It has a leak - buy a new one. If it is 5 years old it will be more cost effective to buy a new one. Window A/C's generally do not come with charging ports You will be looking at well over $100 after the port is installed, leak checked, leak fixed, and then charged.
