Question:
I just bought a window air conditioner (Goldstar) that is supposed to
fit with a vertically sliding window. But I have a horizontally
sliding window, so I tilted the AC unit sideways so that it's longer
vertically. It fits well, so is there anything I should look out for
(condensation collecting in the wrong place), or am I ok?
Answer:
if this works without dumping water into your house or blowing
the compressor via hydraulic lock (due to oil getting into the
compressor piston area due to it being on its side), I will be very
surprised.
Put the A/C unit back the way it's designed to fit. Fill the gap on
top with plywood. If you can't do that, hire somebody who can.
Otherwise you just wasted $100 on a fancy paperweight.
This will not work as you will have condensation leaking out, not to mention
the fact that you could ruin the unit due to oil migaration. it sounds as
though you need a casement window unit which is designed for this
application.
