Question:
Thanks for all the advice guys. The best deals I've found in portable
MiniDisc recorders are the Sharp MDMS722 (about $170 after $50 rebate) and
the aforementioned Aiwa AM-F70 ($175 refurbished at Egghead.) Both seem to
have good reputations and nice features. The Sharp has manual gain
control...not sure if the Aiwa does.
Can you recommend a source for inexpensive lavalier mics?
Answer:
The Sony ECM-T6 is about $17 at B&H...
It is a tie-clip type, without windscreen, but
it can be taped to objects, and a couple of layers
of air-conditioner filter material can be taped
over the tiny mic holes for outdoor use. Not the
best sound available, but it is useable, especially
if you EQ the result during editing. It uses the
big, flat lithium cells for power (not included),
but Radio Shack sells them at a good price.
