Question:
I have a 900 sq ft two-story house. The basement and attic are accesible.
I'd like to have an air conditioner installed (the window units are getting
old). I'd like a dual zone system (two air handlers) as there is nowhere
to run a duct from the basement to the second floor.
I have baseboard heat, so I just need AC.
Any ideas what a system like this would run installed?
Answer:
Depending on brand, your geographical location, design of home, type of
ductwork...
From $2500 to $10,000.
Keep in mind, sheetmetal prices for made up stuff, like duct, have gone up
over 400% in the last 2 weeks.
Look into the "mini split" or "ductless" systems. There's no ductwork
at all. Just a small coolant tube and an electrical line running from
an condenser outside to the in-room air handlers. I had a single zone
unit installed for my garage/workshop for a little under $2K. I think
a dual zone system was about $500 more. I bought my Samsung from a
local dealer.
