Removing Air conditioning unit for Winter

Question:
I recently purchased a home with a detached 3 bay garage/barn. My RV will fit in one of the bays length wise. It will not clear height wise by four inches or so. If I removed the Coleman air unit from the roof for the winter I could get the RV in the garage. I'm wondering how hard it is to remove the unit? Also, I have concerns about breaking the seal between the unit and the RV?

Answer:
Removing the A/C is not hard.

Undo the inside cover(s).

Disconnect power (usual electrical safty warning: don't get killed).
There is both AC and DC wiring so make sure you turn off both sources.

Undo the (usually) 4 big bolts that hold the upper outside part of the A/C to the lower inside part. The whole thing comes apart like a sandwich.

Be careful. The top unit is heavy. Droping it from the roof to the ground does not improve performance

The seal is a rubber gasket that should not be glued or otherwise attached to anything. Removing the A/C provides a good opportunity to replace it.

Cover the hole with a plastic bag and the Handy Man's Helper, duct tape.
