I'm looking to have a 5 ton central air conditioner installed in my newly
constructed home. Can some give me the model number of a good unit from
Trane and how much it should cost installed? I have a new carrier 58MCA
furnace which has been prepped for A/C.
What advantages does a scroll compressor provide?
How much of a premium should I pay for a Trane A/C over a similar Carrier?

10 SEER standard unit: TTB060
10 SEER deluxe unit: TTR060
11 SEER deluxe unit: TTN060
12 SEER deluxe unit: TTP060
12 SEER top unit: TTX060
There is a 14 SEER single speed and 16-18 SEER 2 speed unit.
Advantage: Drastically fewer moving parts, much quieter than recips. I'm told
Trane is now using their own scroll in 10 SEER 5 ton A/C units. The old
Climatuff, however, is a superb compressor. Many components are superior
to the generic recips of the big 3.
There may be a few bucks over the good line Carriers. Probably $200+
more than the builder cubes. I'd pay it! Overall, 10 SEER 5 ton installed
in the $2500-3000 range.
