Mingos (Shoes, really)

Question:
I have ceiling fans, which help a little. Has anyone in the UK experience of a decent portable air conditioner? And a recommendation? Otherwise, I may need to sleep in the car.

Answer:
I have some experience (well about half a week) with a Cyclone portable air conditioner from B&Q this is actually the second one I've carried up here the first was defective in fact on seeing how the second one was packed I suspect the first was a return that had got left in the store by mistake. It is pretty good at cooling however it is also fairly noisy.

They do two this is the 8000 Btu/hour unit suitable for up to 63 cubic metre's and there is a 6000 Btu/hour suitable for a 12 by 14 foot room.
(Don't blame me I didn't write the box blurbs)

It has three settings; Fan only (3 speeds); Dry adjustable temperature
(medium fan speed only); Cool adjustable temperature (3speed fan). There is an exhaust duct to chuck the hot air out and an inbuilt 5.5 litre tank for the condensed water, you can set it to drain externally. The unit will stop cooling when the tank is full or removed and it will in my experience over the last few days fill the tank in about 6 hours.

The large unit costs £249 and the smaller one £199, locally I am informed they also had some older/shop soiled/refurbished versions of the smaller units at £134 these didn't come with the ducting.
