Mobile Home Air Conditioning Unit

Question:
How do dealers decide what size central unit to use on these homes. After fighting with mine for a year, I have come to the conclusion that it's too small (3 ton unit - 1800 sq ft home - South Georgia) Of course, it's barely within specs for this size home. One of the few things I'm unhappy about with my Manufactured home experience. Any ideas?

Answer:
A lot of factors come into play to determine the size of a/c needed especially the insulation package. The only "tip" I can give you is that we have installed over 600 units in the past 3 years and a 3-ton is the largest we have used. (pa & wv) As far as a dealer is concerned, 2, 2
1/2 and 3 ton units are very close in price so there is not much concern over costing. A 3 1/2 or 4 ton can run quite a bit more depending on the distributor they buy from. There are just too many factors involved to make a "judgment call". If the dealer and the installer is reputable, the unit will be most likely sized correctly----if not ?. We have also found that for some reason many residential installers have a tendency to go with a larger unit then necessary when sizing a mobile/manufactured home.
