Marine Air Conditioning problems in Hong Kong

Question:
I am curently working in Hong Kong and am finding little support for my 1990 Carver Santego 38 and any of it's parts. I need any advise possible on my air conditioning unit. It is a Marine Airrrrrr unit
VR16K-H2 with P-500 A/C pump. When I turn on the first stage, the pump and fan work fine. When I turn on the second stage (compressor) it clicks on, runs for about five seconds and then shuts down. As I cannot find the manufacturer on the web, I would appreciate any advice

Answer:
It could be a variety of problems. Perhaps an electrical problem, servicing problem, problems with one of the protective devices, or a compressor problem. In any case, air conditioners all work the same way, as do most refer systems. That's the good news.

Contact a LOCAL air-conditioning/refer repair man. Anyone who works on these systems will have the knowledge and equipment to find out what's wrong with your unit. I'd bet a dollar to a dim-sum that if you contact the
Marine Airrr guys, they'll tell you the same thing. Save long distance costs and find a LOCAL guy yourself.

If it's only a relay or pressure switch, he'll be able to fix you right up, and cheap too.

If it's servicing, you need a local guy for sure, since refrigerant can't be sent over the phone lines.

Only if you need something like a new compressor would you really need to find the Marine Airr folks, and even then, since you're on the other side of the earth, it might be less expensive to simply replace the entire unit.
