Q: Central Air Conditioner

Question:
I'm considering buying a Kenmore central air condition from Sears in the next few days. Does anyone have any experience with central air conditioners from Sears? It's not the first place I would have considered buying central air from, but their unit is comparable to the others I've received quotes from, including Carrier, Lennox and Trane.
I think he has over sized it however, because he suggested a 2.5 ton unit, whereas the only sales guy that did a proper estimate (measuring rooms, windows, etc, etc) came up with a 1.5 to 2 ton unit being adequate. My house is a little under 2100 sq ft. Any thoughts on this as well?

Answer:
Make sure you get quotes from different installers not just the namebrand companies...

I had Francis Home Comfort do my central air, ductwork, direct vent heater for garage, high efficeintcy furnace etc. and my total was about 8200$. I had about 8 quotes or so by different companies to offer me the same and all the others were between 12,000$-15,000$. Francis Home Comfort did a great job and all equipment performs like I would expect/want...
( I went with all Lennox stuff)

I have purchased a number of Kenmore products from Sears over the years.
Good product and very happy with Sears service. I have a Lennox A/C unit in our new home and in my opinion is a much better unit then what Sears has
(Kenmore). Our home is 3,100 sq ft and I have a 3 ton unit.
Works great. More importantly is getting the correct size unit. You should be looking at aprx 1 ton per 900-1000 sq ft. So if your home is 2100 sq ft I would suggest a 2 ton unit. Here is why it is extremely important to size the A/C correctly. If the unit is to large or oversized for your home it will cool your house to quickly, running only infrequently and will not remove the humidity properly. Your house will be at the desired temp but may feel cold & damp. If the unit is sized correctly it should be running almost continually during the summer while maintaining a comfortable humidity level. Any good HVAC person will tell you that these units are designed to run almost 24 hours a day.
