Question:
My wife and I will be replacing our furnace and air conditioner this
spring. Presently we are planning to install a Bryant variable
capacity(94% efficient) furnace. On the air conditioning side, our
contractor has proposed either a 10 SEER Bryant or a 12 SEER Janitrol.
The price difference between the two air conditioners is negligible.
However, I have heard some not so good reports on Janitrol furnaces and I
wonder if their air conditioners are any good. The warranty on the
Janitrol is 10 years and on the Bryant it is 5 years. Any suggestions or
opinions ?
Answer:
I agree that years ago Janotrol was "JUNK" but Goodman Has done much to
improve the quality. Still far from the "top of the line" but all
equipment carries a 5 year ALL PARTS warranty, 20 years on 80% heat
exchangers and lifetime on 90%+ hear exchangers. I've been installtng
them for a number of years and the few time I have encountered a
problem, mt distributor and Goodman Manufacturing has backed me 100%.
Don't know if this is the case nationwide but Sears is using Janitrol in
Atlanta and we all know their warranty is good so they have to have
equipment and a manufacturing company they can depend on.
According to the HVAC survey I recieved, Janitrol was listed with all of
the over priced and over hyped name brands such as the Trane.
Those Tranes are great if you like leaks.
I would rather have the Janitrol, it is the only one that is shipped with
a high pressure charge on the evaporator.
Considering that Janitrol was included with all the TOP? brands, I would
say that the big 3 is starting to get a little worried about how many are taking
comfort in Janitrol.
Brand new A-Coils (copper), had a couple of these.
Janitrol comes with 100# nitrogen charge in its coil and a schrader to check
it with your manifold.
I did see a 5 ton Trane spine fin leak from the liquid and suction line tube
running under the spine fin and wearing a hole through.
I gess they didn't use enough glue;) and foam;) when that coil was assembled
