Home Air Filter?

Question:
Home Air Filter?
I am having problems with the Air conditioning unit in the house that we just bought. Every two weeks, we have to replace the air filter. This is due to it being clogged with dust and dirt. The problem is that it is costly and that there is such a suction in the return that it is unreal. The other thing is that the unit is NOT cooling the house. It runs all day long and never get under 80 until 10:00 p.m. The Home Warranty people say that there is nothing wrong. I disagree. What do we need to do to get the Home Warranty people to fix the problem? Or is there something that I can do to help it myself? PLEASE HELP!

Answer:
Sounds like my old Texas home, They thought it was OK to install a 2 1/2 ton system on a 1600 sq ft house. Most company's in that area now will use factors other than sq ft to size units, The old way of thinking was 1 ton of cooling for every 500 sq ft. And they say, If it cools 20 degrees Cooler than outside air, its OK.. They never used factors as Vaulted ceilings.(Morons) Find the sq ft of your home, Go to the outside a/c unit and look at the model number. your looking for certain number that will be together, The whole model number may look like this LG64893, That 48 tells me its a 4 ton unit, Most are like that. And will be in numbers of 6. (12 = 1ton) 18 = 1.5 ton, 30 = 2.5, etc....so look for that, and compare the unit size with sq ft of the home. As for the filter, spend $35 or $40 and buy a reusable one with hard plastic frame that can be pulled and cleaned. Might want to check the insulation in the attic, and while Ur up there, If the evaporator is in attic, Look at the duct work and make sure the insulation is on it too. They will sometimes use cheap azz flex duct. and if its up there, Make sure its not sucking hot Air from the attic. I would also recommend having a turbine or an attic fan installed to remove that heat. Need further info, IM or email is OK
