Question:
I would like some comments regarding the quality of Goodman air handlers for
an air conditioning heat pump system. I would like to know whether or not I
have gotten screwed in any way and whether or not to expect trouble from the
Goodman air handler that I just had installed (had no choice as I have an
American Home Shield warranty and this is what they supplied).
The air conditioning system in my house recently stopped working. It was a
Carrier 5 ton system. It was a fairly new system. I am the first owner of
this house and have used the system for only about one year. However, the
builder of my house lived here before he sold it..and I believe the unit was
actually about 4-5 years old.
I have read some bad things in message groups regarding Goodman
(Janitrol?)..however, I have to say...that if Carrier is so great, then why
did both the compressor AND coil deteriorate with leaks in so short a time?

I don't see a problem with goodman air handler at all. Goodman is cheaper in
price than carrier but i don't see any difference in quaility at all.
There's nothing wrong with a Goodman air handler. We use them all the
time & have very little problems. Plus they give you a 5 year
manufacturers warranty on all the parts too.
Hope you have flood insurance, for the leak in your ceiling when the drain pan
fails and leaks into the secondary pan that is probably full of loose insulation
clogging the drain hole.(You do have a secondary drain pan?) I don't know why it
is that Goodman pans wear faster for some reason and rust through..
As for American Home Shield I have had some dealing with them as a service
technician, and trying to get through the red tape, of talking with an agent to get
authorization for work, is hard enough. You tell them what they need to make the
repair and an estimate, and they want to haggle..They say something like well that
is kind of high for a motor? that there prices for that motor is $20.00 cheaper,
yes but ask them if they are going to crawl on there belly's under a very low home,
sometimes feeling that there is more room on that ship they build in a bottle, than
what you have to work with.
