Air Conditioning, No Parts available from GM

Question:
I have a 1984 GM Rally STX Van. It has rear air and one of the freon lines is damaged feeding the rear air. There are about 3 section on the high pressure side but I cannot get any of them from GM, Ron Hodgson in St.
Albert, Alberta, Canada says they are discontinued. Does anyone know of a supplier that can provide the o-ring type fittings that are used on vehicles of this make and year? I'd make up my own if I could get the fittings.
Funny that GM makes these vehicles but doesn't supply the parts that make up there vehicles.

Answer:
Being a 1984, I would say that there is a very good probability you will find what you are looking for there. Having it discontinued via
GM is not really surprising.. That part is not something that would be likely to ever break, so it would make little sense for GM to continue to produce parts for a 15 year old vehicle.

The fact that yours is indeed busted, however, leaves you out in the cold, but go for the scrapyard method!

I recently needed a condenser for m '89 Chev Beretta, and was able to choose from about 40 of them at the local scrap yard.. Had to pull it myself, but I liked that since I was able to know exactly what I was getting.. You'll usually get a discount if you pull it yourself, as well - if they don't offer it to you, ask for it.

However, if you luck out and they have one pulled and warehoused allready, you can save the time of pulling it yourself.. I would think that the peice you're looking for is probably not warehoused, however, since it's not exactly something someone would come in for on a regular basis.

Make sure they warranty it for a period of time (most scrapyards will give a 30 day warranty), since if it turns out to have a leak when you have the system pressure tested, you'll be able to go back and swap it for another.
