I need to buy a big window air-conditioner and am considering at this point
a 23,500 btu Carrier ($770) and a 24,000 btu Friedrich ($1070). I've heard
it said that Friedrich is the best but have seen no objective proof.
Friedrich is not always (or even frequentely) listed as the best in
Consumer Reports. Is Friedrich $300 better than Carrier?

Freidrich air conditioners are used in offices located on the platforms, and
in the tunnels of the New York City subway system. I don't know if other
brands would hold up as well when subjected to that much heat, moisture, and
dirt.
