which air conditioner?

Question:
I understand that the Emerson, Fedders, Airtemp and Hampton Bay air conditioners all have the same motor.

Does anyone have any personal experience regarding the comparative noise levels on these four "window model" air conditioners?

Answer:
The Hamptom Bay air conditioners are made by Fedders, so are identical.
The FAN motor determins the noise level, not the compressor.

I am returning a 7500 BTU Hampton Bay air conditioner after less than 1 year use, since the fan motor has failed. I strongly discrourage buying either the Hampton Bay or the Fedders. The fan motor became progressively noisier during its' short lifetime. This energy hog also cost me about $50.00/ month to operate, way beyond projections.
