Air conditioning units

Question:
Anyone got any experience of buying a portable air conditioning unit ? Any recommendations ?

Also, can you vent it by putting it to the inside of an air vent rather than putting new outlets in ?

Answer:
I have a DeLonghi PAC25 portable air conditioning unit at home which has been used every Summer for the past 3 years. This model is no longer available, but has been superceded. Their customer telephone helpline (they are in Wellingborough, Northants.) is 0845 0600 6845.

I would offer a couple of snippets of advice:
1) Be sure you get one which has a large enough cooling capacity for the room where it will be used.

2) I would very strongly advise you have one which also has the water cooling facility rather than only the air cooling facility. The difference between them is tremendous.

With regard to venting, manufacturers usually provide a venting hose, one end of which has a flattened end to pass out through a partially opened window. I had a vent built in when we had our conservatory built. It was done in conventional 100 mm dia plastic tube (tumble dryer vent type, bought from one of the DIY sheds). The vent connection provided by DeLonghi is slightly smaller outside diameter than this but, as the vent is to be a permanent fixture, I have filled the gap between the outside of the connection tube (where it fits inside the vent tube) and the inside of the tube itself with vent connection tape.
