Question:
I want to remove the Coleman roof mount air conditioner from my Airstream.
What type of weather-stripping or gasket system is usually used. I would
assume when I remove the air conditioner I will damage the seal or gasket.
What should I use for a roof to air conditioner sealing system?
Answer:
The A/C uses a foam rubber type gasket that is glued to the A/C unit.
Usually it will end up with half of it on the unit and half of it on the
roof. Just scrape off the old gasket with a stiff putty knife.(if you have a
heat gun, it will help considerably to heat up the old material.)
If you are replacing the old A/C unit , then a new gasket can be
purchased at your RV supply store. Clean off the old gasket and apply the
new gasket to the roof unit. It usually has a self adhesive surface which
glues itself immediately, so take care when you apply it.
If you are replacing the A/C unit with a roof vent, then use putty tape
on the vent to roof surface, and then roof coat the upper side.
