Question:
We recently spent $70 on repairs on our Coleman central air conditioner, which
stop throwing out cold air for no reason. It turned out that is was a
breaker switch and little low on freon.
Well, it just did the same thing, so it's probably the breaker on the
unit itself again, problem is I hate paying someone to come throw a
breaker again. I took the panel off the back of our unit and I can't
figure out what the repair man did to reset the breaker?!
Can anyone help? We do notice that when we turn it on and off from
inside the house, that the little piece we think is the breaker, sucks
in when its turned on and releases when it's turned off.
Answer:
The little piece that moves is the relay, not the breaker. If there is a
breaker inside the cabinet it will be the first thing attached to the
incoming power wire.
Most that have breakers (non-commercial) have the breaker in a subpanel
beside the a/c, not in it. Larger commercial units often have the breaker
inside the case but it will still be the first thing the incoming wires
attach to.
I'm not familar with Coleman units, but some mfg.s have breakers on the
control (24 volt) circuit. Look for a small button where those small
wires from the house connect with the unit. If you do have one, it could
also be on the transformer itself. Just a thought, if the tech. reset it
once, and it tripped agian, it will most likely keep tripping untill the
problem is corrected.
