Question:
I have a 1992 24 ft Prowler Lynx travel trailer. I haven't used it in two
years and it's been parked on our lake lot. Last weekend we cleaned up the
lot and when the air conditioner was turned on, the compressor would run but
the blower would never come on. I didn't have a ladder so I could not
inspect the roof top unit. The thermostat has two switches. Switch 1 = Heat
OFF and Cool
Switch 2 = Low High and Fan
I could not get the fan to come on with switch 2 in any position. I forgot
to take home the owner's manual so I can't tell you the model # of the
Coleman air conditioner. The thermostat is a 6799B6951 if that might help.
Is it possible that dirt daubers have caused a problem with the
airconditioner?
Answer:
Take the cover off of the rooftop unit, and see if you can turn the fan
blade by hand. Regardless, look for an oil hole on either end of the motor
and if you don't find one, squirt some oil on the shaft where it exits the
motor.
The oil in the bearings is simply thick. Take off the cover inside the RV.
Reach up through the cold air exhaust duct and give the fan wheel a little
spin. It'll be a little tight to begin with but will quickly free up. At
your convenience, get on the roof and oil the bearings. There should be oil
tubes sticking out of the motor case for that purpose. If they've vibrated
out, get one of those plastic bottles of oil that come with the long tube and
use it to reach down through the case hole to oil the actual bearing. Fairly
obvious once you see it.
