Question:
My central air conditioner runs almost continuously if the outside
temp is above 80 or so. My inside temp will not go below 76 or 77.
The air temp right out of the blower is between 50 and 52, so does
this mean there is not a sufficient volume of air being pushed through
the ducting? Is my blower motor possibly not turning fast enough? (I
never had this problem before, so I'm assuming my house is
sufficienltly sealed.)
Answer:
A few things you can do yourself is make sure the air filter and the
condenser coils are clean, if it has a belt drive indoor blower, make
sure the belt is not slipping. Other than that, it could be one of
several other things. Most likely it needs to have a little refrigerant
added. A system that is a little low on refrigerant can actually have
very cold air coming off the evaporator at times and in certain spots,
depending on where the temperature is being taken, if fact it can get so
cold it can start to freeze up and will.
