Central Air Conditioner

Question:
I am in San Jose, CA and like to install a central air conditioner. Does anyone have a good referral of a contractor?
I need a 4-5 ton system. I heard that the Trane XL1200 is really good, and is worth the price difference compared to a Carrier system. Is it true?

Answer:
Trane makes excellent equipment. The XL1200 12 SEER is a nice unit. It has the usual Trane (invented by GE) Climatuff compressor under a sound deadening cover, special Lexan top to keep debris out, 2 speed outdoor fan motor for quiet operation in mild weather, 10 year compressor, 2 year parts warranty. It is steep $$. The Carrier TRA is also a good unit. It uses the Copeland scroll compressor under a sound cover, it uses
Carrier's Silencer system to make it whisper quiet. It may not be as steep as the
Trane.
We have experienced more coil leaks with Carrier than Trane.
