Central Air Conditioning Replacement Recommendation

Question:
I am having the outside unit being replaced with either a Trane or a
Bryant. Both are 10 SEER. Does anyone have an opinion or experience on the better and quietr unit.

Answer:
Trane is by far better equipment IMHO. We went through this with a customer today and I must have convinced him because he's going with us, not the competition & Bryant for less.

Neither will be quiet so don't look for that. If you want quiet, go
Rheem/Ruud/WeatherKing or buy a compressor sound cover for your Trane.

Coil: Trane, Spine Fin, been used for nearly 40 years, rarely leaks
Bryant, exposed plate fin, lots of coil leak problems in recent years

Compressor: Trane, GE Climatuff, been used for nearly 40 years as well, as hard to stop as their commerical says
Bryant, could be about ANYTHING, whatever was cheapest at the time it was built!

Cabinet & paint: Trane, beautiful powder paint that will look new for years, louvered cabinet protects the coils against damage.
Bryant, little cabinet, fan grille sticks out the top, coil easily damaged, see http://www.appelheat.com/cabinet.html
