Question:
I have a very small room in my garage. I had planned to install a window and
then air conditioner on the inside wall of room and not cut the actual
garage structure for the window. But the air conditioner manual states the
unit must be installed for rear to be on the outside and not inside a garage
or room.
Is this written in stone? The garage (and room) heat up as this is in So.
Calif. I had thought of venting garage as it cools down in the evening here
as the garage retains heat for many hours.
As the room is very small very (10 feet by 9 feet) , I do not expect to need
air conditioner to run very much but am worried about hot air in garage
interfering with cooling of room.
Answer:
The reason they want the rear to the outside is air circulation. This is the
condenser coil which has the heat of the inside room, now the rear or
condenser side must get rid of this heat and they do that by pulling outside
air over this coil. When it may circulate it's own hot air then it's
capacity diminishes until it gets hot enough that the unit cuts off on high
head. (Service people can tell u about this better than I can)
One should know the refrigerant cycle & what goes on. The indoor
coil,(evaporator) & the outdoor condenser coil are heat exchangers. The
compressor raises the gas temp & sends it to the condenser with high
pressure & to get rid of said heat.
That's enough
