Question:
I am moving from Detroit Michigan to Sunny Tampa Florida and need to get Air
conditioning added to my 1997 Wrangler 4.0. Does anyone know of a place
that can do this for a realistic price in either the Detroit or Tampa area?
Answer:
I've got an old Florida cracker style home. The original heating system
really put out (Fuel Oil). But we went gas a while back.
Anyway, these older homes were built in an era when fuel costs weren't
an issue so they tend to have a lot of air leaks and so forth (Kinda odd
since my specialty was HVAC - Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning).
I didn't size the gas unit that went in cause I was just a kid. But
what happens is the gas unit is just fine unless the temperature drops
below about thirty degrees. Then it just can't keep up. If stays
that cold long enough you'd think the damn heater was broken.
All of this is no big deal if you know it's coming and you just close
off a room or two. But man if it catches you off guard you wake up
freezing to death.
Odd as I've never seen anything quite like it. I mean I could crunch
numbers and tell you OK. If the heating unit maintains 72 degrees
indoors when it is 32 outdoors at peak capacity then it should hold at
70 indoors when it is 30 outdoors.
