Question:
I would like to ask if you've had experience with or seen a Sharp
Window Air conditioner unit in action, if it were quiet as it is
advertized on the box.
I've seen one 12,000BTU model (EER 9.8) Model AF-R120CX that says
something to the fact that it is "quiet"
Exact wording = " Library Quiet™
Sharp air conditioners provide comfort without the added noise often
associated with room air conditioners. Sharp delivers cool and quiet
comfort."
Only Sharp and Panasonic claim that their units are quiet. And lots of
people have attested to the Panasonic being really quiet.
I'm asking about Sharp because it could save me $100 over the
Panasonic.
Answer:
We've got a Sharp window A/C that we just bought last season. It is pretty
quiet, but it's a higher end unit. The compressor doesn't add much over the
noise of the fan running. The window we've got it in is on the second
floor. When it's running, you can stand outside underneath it, and you
can't tell that it's running. I wouldn't call it library quiet. But then
again, we've owned other window A/C units installed in the same room that
were MUCH noisier
It seems like there are a lot of duds out there. We bought 3 Amana
Quiet Zone A/Cs. Two of them work absolutely flawlessly, but the third
had a very loud compressor, plus buzzed and rattled all the time. We
returned it and got another one, which also was noisy, and which we also
returned. The store owner and the repair people tried to tell us that
the noise was normal and that I was expecting too much, but since we
have 2 other identical units that work perfectly, I knew better.
