Question:
I too am looking for info on air cleaners. After I spoke to allergist I
wondered if I should use this or buy an air conditioner.
I have allergies all year, dust, feathers, mold, dog, cats, tree & grass
pollen etc I take Seldane (actually I've been taking Tavist D more it
seems more effective) and use Nasalcrom. If I stop the antihistamine I get
an infection, usually ear or sinus. But with medication I am usually ok
although the last couple of years when first spring pollen hits I am
awful. I had a constant headache last year no matter what I took which led
me to buy the cleaner. But when I spoke with allergist she said I'd be
better off with air conditioner that air cleaner for pollen would pull in
the pollen, air conditioner would remove. I live in New England (in the
country), it's 30-50 at night and it seems ridiculous to think of running
an airconditioner in the Spring! I thought the air cleaner would reduce
my threshold by reducing other allergens?
If I ran an air cleaner would I have to keep windows
Answer:
I'm not too sure of the effectiveness of of Air Conditioning or
standard air cleaners especially in the area where you live . What I
recommend are Air Purifiers that work with Radio Wave Ionization. It
literally drops the pollen, dust, dust mites, dead skin, animal hairs,
smoke , bad odours etc. from the air. I've known people which had allergy
problems like myself who got these purifiers and declared they've breathed
much better around the surroundings that would normally not agree with
them. Most of them even stopped their medication.
With this type of purifiers , it doesn't matter whether your windows
are open or closed, you'll find after turning the Ionization on for the
first time, a lot of the indoor polutants actually fall to the ground,
what i did was one clean up job and that was it. The air was never cleaner
and fresher after that, plus it doesn't really matter where you put it
cause the waves goes through walls and floors (except metal) working the
entire house.
Note, air filters don't work the same way. The filters don't get all
the particles out.
You're right, air conditioning in New England at this time of year
isn't practical, plus from my experience, it's not easy on the electricity
bill. I was never sure they were as effective as their ads claimed. Well, let me know
what your choices of medication are and how your efforts for cleansing the
air at your house are going.
