Question:
I can't install a window air conditioner in my condo. So looking at
portable air conditioners. Rather than vent it via a window, thinking about
using an existing dryer vent. Would use a T-connection and draft flaps to
keep the dryer and air conditioner from blowing into each other. Also
figure to not use them both at the same time.
Is this a viable solution? Pros and cons?
Answer:
That sounds like one of the most clever ideas I've ever heard.
ACs also draw humidity out of the air. They tend to drip, so
you'll have to figure out a way to catch the condensate which
drips off the back corner.
You'll have to build some kind of hot air collection for the back
of the AC, and feed that into the duct. I'd also be tempted to
maybe use a bathroom type vent fan and some sheet metal to
capture the hot air, and push it out the dryer vent.
Now, to say it again, that is one completely great idea.
Plan B is to make a water cooled AC, but that's for a
refrigeration guy to make one of them.
Wasn't interested in water cooled. And you have to understand I can't just
cut more holes in my condo to vent an air conditioner. So I asked this
group. And I get you.
Well now there's a lot of good info on this group. I appreciate the pros
here. If you're one of the pros, please let me know so I can steer people
away.
