Question:
I bought a new window air conditioner (LG 5200 BTU) for the first time
in my life. I realized that the outer sill of my old apartment
building was too short(three and half inched) to mount the air
conditioner. The owner's manual says that the wood strip should be
mounted on top of inner and outer sills by the screws in order to
support the air conditioner. The problem is that the inner sill is
the aluminum and the outer sill is the brick. I'm embarrased that the
manual presumed that the sills are made of the wood.
I am really concerned that the aluminum window frame is able to stand
the heavy air conditioner. Am I anxious too much? I would really like
to hear how people in this website installed the window air
conditioner
Answer:
Unless it's too late to return your window A/C unit, you might want to
consider one of these:

The only thing that mounts in the window is a baffle for the condenser coil
exhaust. Portable A/C units are more expensive than their window
counterparts, but since you live directly above the main entrance to your
building, you won't have to worry about potentially killing someone and the
resulting lawsuit and involuntary manslaughter charge if the thing falls out
the window.
jus pu it in da winda an duk taape et...Listen really Call your
APARTMENT BLG mngr OR owner or whatever before you kill someone by
having your air unit fall out
