Question:
I want to fix to do with the heater and air conditioner.
This is my first Mercedes so I am not familier with the controls either.
The air conditioner compressor runs all the time. There is a control
knob (looks like it might have a blue light in it?) near the bottom of the
control panel that does not work. The knob is stripped (where the rubber is
threaded on) and easily comes out of its body. When I look into the body of
the switch, there is a tab at the bottom that I guess the knob is supposed
to rotate. Is this an on/off switch or a thermostat control? Can I stick a
screwdriver in there to rotate it to turn the compressor off, or will I blow
a fuse (if that is a light in the knob?)? Which way do you turn the knob
to turn it on and off?
In case I can't fix it right away, where is a good place to disconnect a
wire or pull a fuse to stop the compressor from running?
Answer:
the HVAC system is vacuum activated and very complex to
troubleshoot. I might suggest you order from Mercedes USA a service manual
for your particular model. It could be as simple as a loose vacuum
connection to the expensive replacement of the monovalve.
