Question: Suppose I want the air conditioning in my car to cool things down to a
comfortable level. However I want to do this as efficiently as possible. What is the best way to do this?
Given the following which is better: I could keep the temperature setting to maximum cold and then set the fan on
low.
Or I could put the temperature setting to medium and turn the fan on to high.
Whenever I turn off the air conditioner the car windows start to fog up on
the inside. What's the best way to avoid this?
Answer: Try this: close all windows but one, and leave that one down an inch
or two. (As an alternative, drive a short distance with all windows
wide open to drive out the superheated air.) Turn on the AC to the MAX
setting, fan on all the way. That will push a good deal of the warm
air out of the car.
When the air coming out of the vents starts to feel cool , click the AC back to its normal setting and close the window. Adjust the fan to
whatever feels comfortable.
Using the fan on its highest setting shouldn't use too much more
power. But leaving the AC on MAX will eat you alive.
Driving out the interior air before you turn on the AC will probably
reduce or eliminate the fogging you're experiencing. Expect some on
the outside of the windshield, if the weather is especially hot/muggy. An occasional shot with the wipers will clear that up.
