Air Conditioner: A Tale of Woe

Question:
Dometic has a 3 year warranty on it's AC's. I don't know when they went to the 3 year deal. I doubt if they will honor a regular warranty to a second owner. An extended warranty maybe.

No way to tell about the motor. They could last 20 years or 20 minutes.
Usually if they last the first few hours they are good for years, but anything can happen.

Won't hurt contacting them. Worse they can say is sorry, can't help.
Best is they will throw in a few bucks for good will. How about the dealer did they have any type of warranty on the motor home part?

Answer:
Knowing the fine reputation of the Dometic Corporation for customer satisfaction, I decided to write this letter hoping you would consider our situation.

We purchased a 2004 Allegro Bay 37DB in June, 2005. The original mileage on the coach was approximately 5,600 miles. (Documentation can be supplied upon request). The coach currently has about 10,000 miles on it. We are not fulltimers so there hasn’t been much use of the air conditioner.

Over the winter, we ran the unit once each month when we exercised the gen set. Everything worked well until we went to run it this month. The fan would not come on. I contacted your company and was told that we were not covered by warranty as we were not the original owners of the motorhome.

We were fulltime RVers for nine years and both of our fifth wheels had
Duo-Therm air conditioner/heat pump units. We had our first trailer for four years and our second one for five years and neither one ever had a failed fan motor. Prior to the fifth wheels we owned a Winnebago Class
‘C’ and a SunLine pickup camper which also had your product. This is the first air conditioner fan motor failure we have experienced in over 30 years of RV ownership. In fact, we have always been impressed with the quality of your products and their long-lived ability to meet RVer’s needs without failures.
