Question:
I've got lots of good information from this group that's helping me
make my decisions on RVing. Being a little fluffy (I'm not fat, i'm
fluffy ) and living in the south and wanting to travel only
where it is warm ( i used to live up north). I'm thinking that
whatever i do i want a Onan and a air conditioner. Has anyone done the
ghp (gallons or parts of a gallon) on a Van Camper or a 21 ft Class A
motorhome. I drive a Ford E-350 Van and it gets toasty warm if
stopped. So if some of you can supply some info for me, it will help
me guestimate my generator air conditioner cost of operation....I know
it will depend on what i end up getting, but some figures will help me
out.
Answer:
In answer to your "cheap shot" question. I would like to see
the usa economically, but still want a few creature comforts while
doing it. At first i had my sites set on a new or almost new RV, i
discovered that the 1996 Coachman Van Camper i looked at was 36,900$
and if i paid it out it would cost me 63,210$. I would not be able to
sleep at night in the walmart parking lot knowing i spent that much
money on a RV. Not that i am gearing my rv activities around walmart,
but if it costs more to RV then i should see the usa in a Geo and stay
at motels.....
The Onan Owner's Manual for the 4.0 MicroLite (gasoline) model says:
No load 0.29 gph
Half load 0.44 gph
Full load 0.71 gph
This generator puts out 33.3 amps, which is adequate for the 5er we haul
(which has 30 amp service).
The 2.8 KW unit would probably be adequate for your needs. It puts out 23
amps. It is somewhat smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the 4.0,
although slightly noisier (72 dBa vs 70 dBa, acording to the specs). I don't
have the fuel consumption specs for it, although I would assume you could
simply multiply by 2.8/4.0 and get something fairly clos
