Question:
I am moving from Detroit Michigan to Sunny Tampa Florida and need to get Air
conditioning added to my 1997 Wrangler 4.0. Does anyone know of a place
that can do this for a realistic price in either the Detroit or Tampa area?
Answer:
I am thinking about adding AC to my '01 TJ and called a few of the local
dealers, including Parkway in Mt. Clemons and Lochmoor on Mack in Detroit. They
qoute about 1300 for the kit and 600 for the labor. Most gave an estimate of
around 17-1900 clams. If it gets really really hot here this summer I'll be
getting it myself.
JC Whitney's catalog shows an aftermarket A/C system for 1997 and newer
Wranglers
Most dealers can get it done, but it's cost you a bundle. I almost got a '99 TJ
off the lot, had everything I wanted except a/c, and to add it was about in
line with what Walt said. I opted to order a 2000 with factory air, ended up
being quite a bit cheaper.
I still have mixed feelings about the decision since the 99 was Chili Pepper
Pearlcoat (sigh) and that color was discontinued for 2000, although I do like
my Patriot Blue...
