Question:
I'm pulling a 1996 Coleman Sun Valley. I don't have air and everyone
has been telling me it is a must.
Has anyone had experience with cooling a pop up with one of the
rolling room air conditioners?
I thought I could put fittings by the front couch area and vent it out
thru the side of the camper.
Answer:
Especially considering the poorly insulated properties of a "soft-sided"
camper (just what *IS* the 'R'-value of canvas and/or plastic?) you will find
that only the very largest, 120-volt window air conditioner MIGHT be adequate
for your needs. (Note: "might") It doesn't matter whether it's a "rolling"
or window model - it's BTUs that count.
The basic (smallest) RV conditioner is 13,500 btu. They are specially
designed for RV use and to run on 120 VAC.
I expect that, unless you install an "official" RV-type air conditioner on the
ROOF of your camper, you will find anything less to be inadequate,
particularly when it is needed most: In direct sun during the summer down
south
one of those 5,000 BTU $99 specials at Walmart or Sams club will do
just fine for sleeping.
I plan on cutting a port into the tail of my box and sliding in a
5,000 for sleepy time
The Starcraft delaer by me is having an online special for a 13,500 btu
AC unit. for $549. ( I attached the link below) While looking at NEW
pop ups at other dealers they seem to be running about $750 new.
